Today, the next generation of Windows operating system
Windows Vista is making lot of news among its customers,
public. Microsoft has released the operating system
with a set of new features. Among them, aero theme which
includes translucent and 3D windows, more secured Internet
Explorer 7.0, more powerful Media Player 11, Side bar
and lots more. Windows Vista has undergone significant
changes since Windows 95 in terms of User Interface
design and lots more.
Tips for easy handling of Windows Vista
- If you are bored at the look of Aero theme, you
can select non-Aero theme such as Windows Classic
from Start > Control Panel > Themes
- For some problem or some reasons, if vista setup
gets disrupted due to a shutdown or reboot, start
the computer again by removing the Vista setup DVD
from DVD-ROM Drive. The setup will take off from where
it was stopped earlier. Insert back the DVD back into
drive whenever setup asks you to do so. However, if
the setup fails to start and continue from where it
was interrupted earlier, you will need to run the
setup again from DVD, by rebooting again
Powerful search feature
- The search in Windows Vista can be saved on to a
special virtual folder in Windows Vista. This powerful
feature creates the virtual folder, which is by default
identified by \SearchesFolder. Every time, when one
opens such virtual folder, the search results get
updated.
Additional clocks
- Till Windows Vista, it was difficult to know the
time differences between two countries, especially
when one is interacting with other person of different
country. In Windows Vista, we have a new feature called
"additional clocks" which displays the time
of different country along with the local time. To
do this, right click on the clock which is being displayed
on the task bar. Select "Adjust Date/Time"
option from the resultant menu. Click to select the
"Additional Clocks" tab. Mark the "show
this clock" check box to enable the clock and
select the time zone of the country you want. If you
want the time of England to be displayed for this
clock, select "(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin,
Edinburgh, Lisbon, and London". Type in the display
name for the clock as you wish. And then click OK.
Now, you can move the mouse over the task bar time
to display the clocks. You can add only two clocks
using this feature.
Easy creation of XML documents
- The creation of XML documents, which are more secure
than regular text files or even the word processor
documents, are made easy in Windows Vista. For creation
of XML document, just create a document in the word
processor application and print it through selecting
XPS printer.
- When using the help system, one should include Microsoft’s
online databases while performing search operation
for better results. The online/offline status of search
located at the bottom right of the help window.
- At this moment, if one plan to upgrade the graphics
card, here is the suggestion – Go for a graphics
card which has got higher graphics memory in it. The
minimum required amount of RAM on graphics card is
128 MB. But, it is better to go for a graphics card
with double the amount of minimum amount of memory
on it. This is because, some high quality programs
of Windows Vista needs higher memory on the graphics
card.
- Make use of Parental controls to protect the younger
users from accessing harmful content, prone content.
Parental controls enable elder users to control their
kids in a much efficient way.
- Have you ever used the icon on the upper left corner
of system and application window to close the window
by double clicking it, instead of close X button?
If so, you can still do it in Windows Vista though
the icon has disappeared, the function remains there
itself.
Vista Readyboost
- In Windows Vista, Windows ReadyBoost lets one to
use removable flash memory drive to boost the system.
Other performance enhancement tools can be obtained
from third party sites. These sites include TweakVI

250 Column headers in Vista
- Windows Explorer makes use of column headers such
as name, size, date and so on to sort files. While
Windows XP had around 45 columns, it is the Windows
Vista has got nearly 250 such columns.
- 12. The search box has become more intelligent than
ever before. Accurate results can be obtained from
it, as and when one types into the search box. Search
box now even goes through email messages while searching.
