The Screen Shots of Windows Vista

Windows Vista Screen shots basically give an idea of how the various screens appear in any software product. It gives an idea of the software without using it. The method of taking screen shots was started with the introduction of Windows 95. Before this, screens were directly printed on to the printer, when a user hits the Print Screen key, which is available in the keyboard. Now instead of printing directly on the printer, it copies the entire contents of the screen to the clipboard. One can paste it to the application program which requires it.

Windows Vista is still under development stages. Therefore the screens may appear different while installing and working with windows Vista.

The Installation of Windows Vista

The installation of Windows Vista starts, with a prompt saying "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." instead of "Press any key to boot from CD". This shows that the final product of Windows Vista will be made available in multiple CD’s or in a single DVD. On pressing a key, installation proceeds to the next screen, which shows a process bar and windows vista logo.

After few seconds this screen disappears and the installation starts. The setup program of windows vista is divided into two parts, namely "Collecting Information" and "Installing windows". Collecting Information part consist of prompting the user for the product key, prompting to select installation type, prompting to select media, such as hard disk drives on which the windows vista is to be installed, prompting the user to provide the computer name and then lastly, prompting the user to accept or decline the end user license agreement.

After collecting all these information the setup prepares to install windows vista, and copies the files accordingly. Once installation completes it displays, the screens as follows,

The windows vista desktop

It consist of black colored Task bar. In the task bar, there is a start button followed by list of quick launch items, which is also followed by a space for the active tasks, a panel for date and startup items. The desktop background is decorated by using pictures, and also can be decorated using web pages. On the desktop area, there is an icon for recycle bin by default. However, short cuts for different programs can be added in the desktop area for quick access. The desktop icons look slightly bigger, than that in Windows XP. The recycle bin icon can be made hidden to get a clean desktop, in Windows Vista. The icons my computer, and Internet Explorer are made hidden by default.

The GUI

The Graphical User Interface has got semi-transparent windows. The title bar of window now consists of the same 3 buttons, but, with special effects, similar to that in MAC OS X. All windows have translucent borders.

It is a default folder and file viewer, in windows family of operating systems. It lists all the folders and files which are within a folder. Its look has been changed in Windows Vista. The title bar of Windows Explorer shows the folder name of the current folder which one is viewing. The path to the folder will be shown in the next row in the address bar. The look of address bar has been changed to "Computer > C: > Folder > Inner folder" instead of old styled "c:\Folder\Inner Folder". This make address bar to look like address bar that of MAC OS X. The top level menu items such as "File, Edit" etc. are seen next in the next row.

The quick functions for the selected file will be displayed on the next row. The next row consists of a list, with the file names, and folder names, of the selected folder. At the bottom of the window there is additional information about the file, such as it creation date, size, rating etc. The rating of a file depends on the use of the file. The Explorer turns its color to orange, if the selected folder contains only pictures. The large thumbnail view enables one to view the perfect big icons.

Copy/Move dialog

When one copies/moves some files to some other folder or to the medium, the copy/move dialog appears. It consist of a progress bar which shows that the files being copied to the selected medium. The dialog also shows to the user, the file name that is being copied to the folder or medium.
