Windows Vista RC 1 getting better & better
Microsoft has released the release candidate for Windows
Vista. In software development cycle, the release candidate
refers to the final product, ready to be released. The
release candidate product may contain some fatal bugs
in it. The other terms for release candidate are Gamma,
Delta etc. For many people, this update looks like strange
one. People even think, what to expect from this update.
Windows Vista RC1 contains a number of fixes and hidden
features. Windows Vista RC1 has much better hardware
and driver support than previous releases.
Notable change - smoother Flip 3D option
There are notable changes to the User Interfaces from Beta 2 point of view, which includes smoother Flip 3D option and less number of User Account Control prompts.
There are still a number of programs that are not compatible
with Windows Vista. The compatibility issue is one of
the major issues that must be addressed before making
the new product.
For example, the programs developed for Windows 98 will run on Windows XP. But, sometimes produce errors. The program must be error free while running on both Windows XP and Windows 98.
Special permission to run - Antivirus programs
With Windows Vista, the effected programs include Antivirus
and other some programs which require some special permission
to run. Microsoft is working hard to make sure that
these programs will not cause any trouble in Windows
Vista, when it is being released to market finally.
If the computer has got no hardware issues, & driver
problems, then the installation is very fast. Many users
have said that they were able to install the windows
vista, within 20 to 25 minutes. However, some other
users have reported that their computer has taken longer
time to install which varies to 1 hour approximately.
New search from the Start menu
One can install Aero Glass feature in to their system,
if their system comes with latest graphics card. There
are some display problems with the games, online games
in Windows Vista, but, can be manageable, if there are
good set of old display drivers. In RC1, the new search
can be easily accessible from the Start menu, Windows
Explorer, and many other native Windows applications.
In final market product, there are four flavors available.
They are, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate.
Windows Vista RC1 will stop working from 31st May,
2007
But, when it comes to installation point of view, the
Release Candidate is of Ultimate flavor. The Release
Candidate installation will prompt for the CD-Key. One
needs to enter the CD-Key that came with Beta preview
program. There are some important points the RC1 License
Terms agreement. The Windows Vista Release Candidate
will stop working from 31st May, 2007, without any further
notice or messages. Once it stops, the data used with
the software, will not be accessible. One must compulsorily
activate RC1 with Microsoft. This could be done by making
use of the Internet or by making a call to Microsoft.
No activation - No Vista
If not activated, the product will self-destruct within
few days from the date of installation. Because, RC1
is pre-release software, one must give feed back to
Microsoft compulsorily. Windows Vista needs higher memory,
eats a lot of hard disk space, so you need to look for
high capacity hard disk drives. This makes computers
little expensive. But, prices will come down from heaven
to the earth, due to heavy competition, especially when
the OS is fully released.
Rich set of features
Windows Vista contains a rich set of features. In addition
to features such as Media Player 11, Internet Explorer
7.0, it contains a photo gallery which can be used to
edit the existing photos, videos in one interface, tags
and ratings.
One thing is sure; Microsoft has done excellent work
in bringing the Release Candidate 1. Microsoft should
see what bugs does the operating system contains and
fix it and then only it should release the final version
of the product, i.e. Windows Vista. One can enjoy the
features of Windows Vista in the years to come, as it
is going to be most intelligent and high performance
operating system in the family of Windows Operating
System.
