It is a birthday time for a new born baby, the new sensation among the operating systems Windows Vista. It’s been one full year for Windows Vista, which has celebrated its birthday on the 30th January.
New chapter in history of windows operating systems
With its many advanced features, a lot more bugs, windows vista opened up a new chapter in history of windows operating systems, one of the longest surviving operating systems till date, since its first release on around 1985 – 1990’s. If we look at the past, till the release of Windows 3.1, Windows was not so popular. With Windows 3.1 gaining popularity, Microsoft introduced Windows 95, which dominated the almost entire computer world, by its nice user interface and many other new features which were not present at that time. The Graphical User Interface in Windows 3.1 was replaced with new user interface. This perhaps introduced the word “Desktop computing”. Many new useful features, which we still see were introduced in Windows 95. This release turned the fortune wheel of Microsoft.
Now, let us see how present generation Windows Vista differs from Windows 95, and its predecessor, Windows XP. While Microsoft inherited some of the concepts and features of XP as well as Windows 95, it also scalped some, and added some new features while building Windows Vista.
Aero - Graphical user interface design
The most important difference we see in Windows Vista is the graphical user interface design. As you know the graphical user interface in Windows Vista is called as Aero. But, let me warn on the first year celebrations, that this interface is not good for people with eye related problems. People with eye related problems will prefer to have the old Windows XP’s interface, the LUNA. So, let me see whether Microsoft will consider this, and reintroduces the Luna, as an optional interface. Let aero be the default Graphical user interface for Windows Vista.
Home Basic without Aero
One more thing is left to say. Let aero be introduced in Home Basic edition of vista. More people have already gone for vista home basic because of its low price.
By the by, I heard that one of the richest person Mr. Bill Gates has crashed to 3rd position in world richest person’s list, after being led the list for almost a decade. Who will buy the vista ultimate at a large price, that too in India? It’s me ask this question to Mr. Bill Gates, if I get chance to interview him. The prices of Vista ultimate is kept such a high such that, only institutions can buy that. They have given a feature less, looking like feature full, Home basic of Vista to home users. Any intelligent home user will not go for Home Premium, which is also priced at slight high. Generally a user expects some new features in the product which he purchased, than the earlier version of the product.
Great Help system
Comparing all the previous editions of Windows, Vista seems to be good and intelligent in terms of its help system. The OS itself teaches a user, the basic fundamentals of a computer. It also includes a page on what is a computer, what is CPU, Memory, Hard disk, Mouse, Keyboard etc. in its help system. This makes a new user who donot have an idea of what is a computer. It would have been even better, if this option of help appears in startup screen itself.
Anyway, Microsoft has released vista service pack 1, which is first major update to the vista operating system. Let us hope and wait for the best to come in the future updates.
