How Bill Gates Use Parental Controls In Windows
Vista?
Windows Vista, the generation next operating system
is making news for its new features, adventures, and
certainly on issues. Among the new features, the feature
called parental control has created new tide of waves
among Vista customers world wide. It was reported by
Reuters that, Microsoft’s undisputed software
king, former CEO, Bill Gates is one of the great admirers
of this concept. Mr. Gates often use the concept for
controlling his own children (a son and a daughter)!
It sounds me like Unbelievable!!!… Mr. Gates said
that, he prevents his daughter of 10-year old from using
the computer for more than 45 minutes per day. He also
set some restriction on his son by the way of parental
control.
Effective use of parental controls
He said that his daughter started using tablet computers
for almost everything in a school. He further added
that she started becoming addicted to a gardening game
on Xbox 360, named “Viva Piñata”
and started playing it continuously for more than three
hours. Mr. Gates said he is now happy that he can control
her, by making effective use of parental controls, by
upgrading the system to Vista. He said that Vista has
set a standard for controlling kids from using the computer
and enable parents to make their kids to concentrate
on their studies and other activities, which was earlier
very difficult. Mr. Gates says that, he can now watch
the activity log of the kids, which enables him to know
what all web sites his daughter has visited and whom
she was instantly messaging etc.
Now, let us hope that Mr. Bill gates have become happiest
man in the earth, with no other headaches regarding
controlling his kids with the aid of superb program
called as parental control.
Tool meant for controlling the overall activity of
child
Parental control is a tool meant for controlling the
overall activity of child by the parents. This tool
available now with Windows Vista, can block the programs
and web sites, which are not supposed to be watched
or run by the child according to parents. The tool can
keep records of every activity which the child has done
so far, if it is directed to do so by the parent. Also,
the parent can set timed shutdown, which is also by
using the parental control.
The tool will be popularly used by the Windows Vista
community of parents to control the activities which
are carried out by the child under non supervision of
parents. However, according to me, this may widen the
psychological gap between parent and kids, especially
if there are no siblings. So, what I feel is, parents
need to implement this feature, only if the child is
non-cooperative by nature, which is like the child Mr.
Gates, as mentioned above.
Separate accounts for the child and the parent
One more word of caution goes here. The systems which
make use of parental control will have separate accounts
for the child and the parent. Parents need to log using
parental account and set the preferences. The parental
account is protected using a secrete code which is called
as the password. Keep this password, out of reach of
children. Reverse effect (Phew! Child controlling the
parents) can take place, if the password disclosed to
the child. So, Echaram… (Meaning beware, be careful.)
Like Mr. Gates, you may want to control the child.
