Should I upgrade to Windows Vista?
If
it is your family computer, ask Home minister.
Once your home
minister decides to upgrade to windows
vista, she will have following questions. Should I go for windows vista
home
premium upgrade or windows vista home basic upgrade? Now that is a
valid
question. It is better to follow windows vista upgrade advisor.
Are you
upgrading to Windows Vista? My friend asked me this, as I had a
computer in my
home also. At that moment, I smiled at him. But, it created new waves
in my
mind. Questions like, what if I upgrade, what are the problems that
might
trigger after an upgrade, etc, started flashing me. Every user will
think about
these aspects before he goes for an upgrade. I would like to give you
few
upgrade tips.
Why
should you upgrade to windows vista?
The first
thing
that, one should do is to see why one needs upgrade to windows vista.
There are
several reasons behind an upgrade. One of the reasons for an upgrade is
that,
the existing operating system giving lot of trouble such as program
crash etc.
The second reason is the spirit of adventure. The third reason is the
likeness
towards the new operating system environment and the eagerness towards
learning
new technologies.
What
is New in Windows Vista?
Now, let us
change
our focus on what is new in Windows Vista. The first thing where you
will note
change is in the area of desktop. The desktop area has been entirely
revamped.
The glamorous task bar adds more glitter to the Vista desktop. Another
significant development is in the area of windows. All windows in vista
have
given MAC OS X like touch. This part is under severe criticism, as
Microsoft
could have found a new design instead of copying the window design from
MAC OS
X. The font rendering has improved a lot, with the text on the screen
made
clearly readable. Other features include safer browsing using internet
explorer
7, revamped and redesigned latest media player 11, parental controls
and many
more. People who go
for vista can enjoy
latest version of some existing devices and also some new devices.
Vista upgrade problems
Upgrading
the existing old system to Windows Vista will find some tough time.
This
includes hardware components of the old system. The problem arises,
whenever
Windows Vista starts checking for hardware compatibility. Windows Vista
needs
high configuration system for running the operating system
successfully. If any
hardware is not compatible then it will not function in Windows Vista.
The
device has to be replaced or removed from the system, before Windows
Vista gets
installed into the system. Other problems include
manufacturer’s inability to
provide the latest drivers for the old devices. Such devices will face
some
conflicting problems, even if they can run with old drivers. These
problems most
commonly exists with display adapters, sound cards, old CD-ROM drives.
As
of now, some software such as Antivirus packages, CD-Burning softwares,
etc.
will have some problems with Windows Vista. This is mainly due to the
conflict
in the environment settings such as path and the environment variables.
Though
there is a series of problems with vista exists, one can go for vista
now. But,
in my opinion, it is better if one could wait for a major update to
vista, the
service pack 1 to get released. The service pack is a large collection
of fixes
and improvements to the software. Intel had said that, the service pack
1 will
be out some where in October-November period.
But now Vista Service Pack 1 Ahead of Schedule, May arrive by Feb 15.
So, it is better to wait for the service pack 1 to arrive. By that
time,
hardware vendors may come up with latest patches for their device
drivers.
My Advice
In
my words, I think, waiting is the best solution for any software
upgrades, as
the newly created software may contain large set of problems hidden
with it,
though it appears perfect in all aspects. The bugs get fixed in the
service
packs. Wait and get the best of Windows Vista, if you are not
particular about
installing it now. Think twice before you could go for an upgrade, now.
Good
Luck… If you cannot decide by yourself, then ask your home
minister (if you
have one) to decide about it!
