Problems with Solution for Windows 7
With all new features, Windows 7 will stand at the top than their predecessors. It is faster, with attractive features and it makes the best use of available resources. But still it is not perfect for some users. This may be experienced by the users who already use this operating system.
The common problems like upgrade, interface aspects and features that seems to be disappeared entirely from its latest version.
Problems of Windows 7 and their solution
1) Hanging:
Many peoples reported that their advanced operating system hangs forever (around 62% ) after installing, which was irritating.
Solution: Reboot the system, and just rollback to Windows Vista to open the setup log file \$WINDOWS. ~ BT\Sources\Panther\ to see what happened. Microsoft explains that it is caused because of “Iphlpsvc” - service stopped and then ignorance of environment variable to fix this problem. If these doesn’t help, look up for other clues in setup log, and avoid the conflict between the existing OS if possible.
2) DVD drive is not found:
The DVD drive may not open, still if it is visible in the BIOS or if you using a standard drive.
Solution: Browse to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control. Then delete UpperFilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak.
3) Poor video quality:
The power plan settings of windows 7 affect the software
Solution: If the quality of video playback is found to be poor in your system. Click on Start, type Power options and click the Power Options link and modify the plan settings to currently selected plan, click Change Advanced Settings, expand the Multimedia Settings section and make sure “Playing video” is set to “Optimize performance”. The laptop users may observe the improvement in the battery life after applying the above settings.
4) Unsatisfied Taskbar:
Many people have been less impressed with the improved taskbar buttons, they found it complex to decide at glance whether an icon is a running application or a pinned shortcut.
Solution: Fix this problem by restoring some other standard taskbar buttons; right click on the taskbar, select Properties and set Taskbar Buttons to “Never combine” or “Combine when taskbar is full”.
5) Problems with Iphone:
Iphone doesn’t synchronize (music and video are do not go parallelly), particularly in 64-bit Windows 7 systems with the P55 chipset as base, some time Iphone do not recognize and display the error as it can’t connect due to some “unknown error”, usually 0xE8000065 as the unknown error.
Solution: If the above problem occurs. Click Start, type DEVMGMT.MSC and press enter to launch Device Manager, then click View> Devices By Type. Increase the Universal Serial Bus controllers section of the tree, right click each USB Root Hub entry in turn, select Properties> Power Management, and clear after completing these tasks. Turn off the device in your computer to save power.
6) Side effects of Themes:
Windows 7 has got some attractive themes and Microsoft has facilities to download some other amazing themes from its own Microsoft website; but installing them may cause some annoyance. If you download new themes to you system, this may cause disappearance of your built in icons like My Document, My Computer.
Solution: To control this, right-click on the desktop, select Personalize > Change Desktop icons, clear the “Allow themes to change desktop icons” box and click OK, thus icons will conserved. To change the themes, you should do manually from the same Desktop Icons dialogue.
7) Hiding Extension:
Default settings in Explorer hides the file extensions, files and folders.
Solution: To fix this problem, Open Windows Explorer and click Tools> Folder Options > View. Clear the “Hide extensions for known file types” to show the file extensions, reduces the chances of opening the virus.txt.exe file unfortunately in future.
8) Aero themes annoyance:
Solution: To fix this problem, Click Start, type Aero, choose the “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” link, and click Next to launch the aero trouble shooting wizard. It will try to identify and fix the problem. And if it is does not work, then install the latest driver for your graphics hardware. Some Aero features may disabled in the Register like Aero peek. To resolve this, launch the REGEDIT and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM and lookup that EnableAeroPeek is set to 1 or 0.
9) Invisible folders:
In some case of windows 7 the folders may disappear.
Solution: Click Start> Computer in Windows 7 and `you can see the systems folders like Control Panel, and My Document might be disappeared in the left side of the Explorer panel. To solve this Click Tools > Folder Options, check “Show all folders”, click OK and all your system folders will reappear.
10) Live MovieMaker problem:
In some cases Windows Live MovieMaker do not let you import network files by default. Monopolise may be the problem.
Solution: Tweaking register will solve this problem. Click on Start and type REGEDIT, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WindowsLive\MovieMaker, add a DWORD value AllowNetworkFiles and set it to 1.
