Mistakes and problems with Vista upgrade, How to
correct them?
It was one day afternoon, We all make mistakes and
create problems for others and ourselves. However, one
should be able to rectify and correct them. Then, they
must also ensure that the same mistakes will not be
repeated again and over again.
The computers can also make mistakes, depending on
the situation. It is of course, a human prepared intelligent
machine! The computers have no reasoning power. They
simply take in what the human feeds into them (But,
certainly not the delicious burger & pasta!) and
they just do what the feeds will tell! You may think,
feed means cattle feed!
If you think so, you are a genius!!!!.... But, the feed,
I refer here is about instructions given to the computer.
The instructions make the computer to work. The combination
of these instructions makes a program. Some of these
programs may contain wrong instructions.
Such instruction in the program becomes the source
point for a problem. Such problems need to be identified
and fixed before one could run the program again. These
problems are related to software, and are called as
“software problems”. These problems can
be rectified and corrected as quickly as possible, depending
on the situation.
Let us now talk about upgrading existing operating
system to Windows Vista. There are certain things to
be known before going for upgrade. Please note we will
be talking about absolute minimum requirements here
for running Windows Vista. It is always better to got
for higher configuration.
What is that “certain things” in upgrading?
Certain things, I here refer to the overall system
requirements for Windows Vista.
Why one should know the system requirements, before
installing windows vista in the existing computer?
In certain systems, Windows Vista may not work, properly.
Further, the installation process may not even allow
one to install the Windows Vista, if the system is not
at par with the required components.
What is meant by “required components”?
Required components certainly refer to the hardware
parts. There are certain parts that must be compulsorily
installed in the computer, for an operating system to
work. These are called as “Required Components”.
I am having old Pentium. Can I upgrade the operating
system to Windows Vista?
The issue is not whether it is old Pentium or new
Pentium. The actual point lies in the speed of the processor.
Upgrading is not possible for computers which run at
below the speed of 800 MHz. (Of course, old Pentiums
(I mean Pentium I, II) will not be available in the
required speeds!) The minimum processor speed specified
by Microsoft is 800 MHz.
Performance wise; these systems will be very slow. The
programs may take a lot of time to get loaded into RAM.
The program’s screens may appear after long time,
after one selects it to run. The programs may even enter
into non responsive state.
Then what should I do?
If you are financially well off, go for the latest
computer. The prices may even come down after final
version of Windows Vista released. Look for Vista Compatible
computers. If not, go for second hand computers, with
processors at above 800 MHz.
Processor OK, What about other hardware components?
It is needed to be changed, if a hardware component
is not sufficient, for installing Windows Vista. Check
for minimum system requirements for Windows Vista in
www.microsoft.com.
In minimum system requirements they have stated that
20 GB as Hard disk capacity? Is it sufficient?
Microsoft stated that minimum required free space
for installing Windows Vista is 15 GB. If that is, the
case, in 20 GB HDD, another 5 GB will be made available
to users. This 5 GB free space is needs to be used by
data and other programs. Some programs may occupy a
large space. So, it is better to go for 40 GB+ hard
disks, for good system performance.
Is there any specification for Hard disk speed?
Yes, the hard disk speed is measured in terms of RPM.
It stands for Rotations per Minute. It is the measure
for rotation of wheel in mechanical engineering. Higher
the RPM, fast access to the data, from the hard disk.
Usually, some hard disks get the speed of 5200 RPM.
While the others even more at 7200 RPM.
Then, what about the RAM?
The RAM must be upgraded to 512 MB. More the RAM,
the faster the system is. The better choice is 1GB /
2GB.
How can one know that a new hardware is Vista Compatible?
Now Vista is released, the different device manufacturers
will release the new set of drivers for Vista. But,
some others may not. Such devices may still work with
older drivers, with fewer features.
For example, if one has got old printer, which was
purchased during the days of windows 98. It comes with
Windows 98 drivers. Now, if the manufacturers release
the drivers for Windows Vista, then the device will
work. But, in case the manufacturers don’t, then,
one can try out installing Windows 98 drivers. But,
one cannot be sure whether the driver gets recognized
in Windows Vista or not. If it gets recognized, then
there is another problem.
The problem is in case of printers, certain characters
may appear differently. Similarly, for other devices,
the driver may get loaded, but, the device may not get
recognized.
What are the new features of Windows Vista that requires
additional new hardware component in the system?
This is probably, Windows Aero. If one need Windows
Aero to work one must have to install a hardware component
known as “Graphics Card”. Whatever the graphics
card is, the component must support Direct X 9.0. Only
then the Windows Aero will get enabled in the system.
Windows Aero:
This time around, Microsoft decided to give a newer
feature to Windows users, which gives 3D look for Windows,
called as “Windows Aero”. One can enjoy
arranging windows in 3D at different angles. One can
also get translucent windows in Windows Aero. Windows
Aero helps to create 3D games in a different way. This
feature enables developers to easily call the required
functions and statements for development of games and
other 3D applications.
Are there any software problems related to Windows
Vista?
For this, we need to look by two different angles.
One angle, is upgrading from operating system like MS-DOS,
Windows 95, Windows 98. Another angle is upgrading from
Windows XP. Before, we look into different angles, let
us what file system does the Vista is going to support.
It is certain that, Vista will not get installed into
Hard disk partitions which have FAT32 as file system.
This means, one need to format the partition into NTFS,
and then install Windows Vista. The answer is clear,
by now. Upgrading from operating systems like MS-DOS,
Windows 95, Windows 98, which are installed into FAT32
is now not possible. For Windows XP too if the Hard
disk is formatted using FAT32 is not possible.
More Features of Windows Vista:
Apart from Windows Aero, Windows Vista comes with
a new bunch of features. Amazing Internet Explorer 7.0,
Windows Media Player 11. I was waiting, for these two
features, since the release of Windows XP service pack
2.
But, Microsoft gave these two new features in Windows
Vista. The new default web browser for Windows Vista
is Internet Explorer 7.0. The browser contains more
security against hackers. The browser also contains
tabbed browsing, which allow one to group the web pages
that belong to one site to be opened under one window,
rather than multiple windows.
The Media Player 11 gives advanced sound and video
qualities. The other features of Windows Media Player
11 include URGE services from MTV digital music services,
Simplified Library, Library layouts. One can play or
purchase million numbers of songs from MTV by using
the URGE services.
One can purchase albums of various great singers, collection
of songs from different kinds, from the URGE services.
The default color of Windows media player window is
coffee black, which is similar to the color of the task
bar.
Problems in Windows Vista
Man created computer and developed software for it.
No software is perfect. It is not that the Vista won't
ever crash or cause you any problems, but I am sure
that that Microsoft has produced much better software
from their previous versions. Vista comes with more
security and better search features. Here are the 16
reasons why should you select windows Vista. It's rock
solid. There are still some compatibility issues, but
it is not Microsoft’s fault. As the hardware manufacturers
should develop drivers for their products.
Anyway, I'd go with Vista, seriously. Especially since
it's on a new PC. Microsoft will be improving it with
the service pack later.
Finally, a word on Windows Vista System requirements:
With the following system, one should be able to work
with all windows vista features.
- Processor: Pentium IV 2.0 GHz.
- RAM: 1 GB.
- Hard Disk: 80 GB.
- DVD ROM drive (Preferably, DVD Writer).
- DirectX 9.0 supported graphics card with 256 MB
on card memory.
- Internet Connection (For Activating Windows Vista).
What ever the problems, mistakes, Windows Vista will
be the new feature rich, possibly strongest in security,
among the operating systems, that we saw till date. |
