The technological giant Apple has released an updated technical support document, regarding iTunes being compatible with Windows Vista. This document has addressed the compatibility issues of latest version of iTunes with Windows Vista and has been recommended for use by most editions of Windows Vista. Running itunes on windows vista is now possible. The latest version of iTunes is 7.1.1.

ITunes is a digital media player application, introduced by Apple during the beginning of 2001 at MacWorld Expo in San Francisco. The application meant for playing digital music, and digital video files.

It also provides an interface to manage contents on Apple’s famous iPods. IPod is a brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple during 2001. IPods are basically digital audio players. The device stores data on its internal hard drive or in flash memory.

The iPod can be used as external data storage devices. Apple recently released a device called as iPhone, a device which combines the features of video-enabled iPods with mobile phone technology. ITunes can get connected to iTunes stores in order to download the purchased digital music, music videos, videos, television shows, games, and many more.

ITunes was developed by Jeff Robin and Bill Kincaid as an MP3 player called SoundJam MP in 1999. It was later purchased by Apple in 2000 and was released under today’s name, the iTunes, with given a new interface and the ability to burn CD’s. Since then, iTunes has undergone many changes. The short lived MAC OS X support was added to iTunes by the Apple.

Apple added support for iTunes for Windows 2000 and XP in 2003, with the release of version 4.1. However, in Windows Vista, it faced a lot of compatibility problems. Microsoft and Apple started to work together to resolve these issues.
Apple is warning that iTunes is not supported in 64-bit edition of Windows Vista. The ITunes will remain unsupported in Windows XP 64-bit edition also. The company warns that the existing version of iTunes contain problems which can be set right in the coming versions. The company is working actively to resolve the problems.

The problems related to iTunes are,

  • Ejecting iPod from Windows Explorer or by using “Safely remove Hardware” feature in Windows Vista may corrupt the iPod. Users are advised by Apple to eject iPod from control menu which appears in iTunes. Microsoft is working to solve this problem.
  • iTunes will display graphics or text incorrectly on the screen, there by causing a lot of confusions for the user. The user is advised to resize the screen.
  • Windows Contacts has a problem of synchronization with iPod. The contact group is said to be non sync with the device. The document gives some wise advises for iTunes users who are looking forward to upgrade to Windows Vista or who have purchased a brand new computer with Vista being pre-installed.
