Windows Vista Past, Present and Future
Microsoft, at last, has released Windows Vista operating
system to its world wide customers on 30th January 2007,
after releasing the predecessor Windows XP, which was
the final major release for Windows client sided operating
systems. Vista includes several new features such as
the new “Aero” interface which includes
3D effects and translucent effects to all windows, enhanced
parental controls, good looking smart side bar, integrated
search tools, latest Media Player version 11, Internet
Explorer 7.0 and lots more.
Microsoft’s several new partnerships with media
outlets
Additionally, Microsoft has also announced several
new partnerships with media outlets and online services
which sell the accessories required for better accessing
the available features. They also include online services
like rental services such as Sanity Online for a new
type of music rentals, BigPond Movies for rental movies
and more.
Microsoft’s image in the Australian market
Microsoft Australia’s Windows Client Business
Group director, Jeff Putt says that Sanity was chosen
because of its popularity in Australia. He further added
that, it will boost the Microsoft’s image in the
Australian market. He said that the service will go
Live in coming April. However, the movie service from
BigPond is available now with movies costing 5.95$ or
even less. Right now, there are few new movies available
in the service and will be expanded later. Jeff predicts
that, this content delivery management system will be
the future of next generation technologies.
He gave an example of one being at home on weekends
and there is blackout in television on the same days
due to some problems, want to spend the day watching
movies, can fulfill his desire by making use of feature.
Jeff said he did not find the process of placing order
for a movie is so difficult. He further added that broadband
service providers should adjust their pricing on internet
plans, so that users can download more content for less.
Media Center and Tablet editions
Windows Vista Home premium is the Operating system
to incorporate other specific operating systems such
as Media Center and Tablet editions. Media center had
the potential to emerge as top one among its users but
the sales went slow. However, things have improved since
then when vendors like dell have made it as standard
when they sold their PC’s.
Jeff said that the Media Center sales have improved
a lot since then. He further added that, Media Center
is an Operating System which is basically designed to
help one to use their PC in some way in which they expect
to use it. It can well organize the photos, movies,
music in an excellent way. He expects the same performance
from Windows Vista too.
Windows Vista & Xbox 360
Jeff Putt believes that Windows Vista will change the
way of accessing the required contents, in combination
with extenders such as Xbox 360. Jeff said that people
will look to buy such extenders and then try something
more advanced with Windows Vista.
Bring more and more people towards computing
There are new ranges of HP touch-capable PC’s
whose new touch interface utilizes the tablet features
in Vista as well as using the newly touchable Media
Center interface. These touch capable PCs were launched,
the week before vista got launched. Jeff, however predicted
that the technology will not going to change the look
but, will be able to bring more and more people towards
computing, which is a good thing.
Origami, is a tablet-like PC which is designed to
act as a media device
There is more number of hardware, software collaborations
on which Microsoft could have embarked on being successful.
There is a tablet like PC, UMPC which was originally
codenamed Origami, is a tablet-like PC which is designed
to act as a media device. However, the consumer demand
has been low and UMPC is now used mostly by business
people.
Driver software which is not compatible with Windows
Vista
Some people may complain that, their devices will not
work in Windows Vista. The actual problem lies in the
driver software which is not compatible with Windows
Vista, not the device itself. Some manufacturers will
provide updated drivers. Download these drivers before
installing Windows Vista, as Vista may not be able to
detect your systems LAN card driver itself!
Some software pundits say that, it is better to upgrade
the system to Windows Vista after the release of Service
Pack 1. Jeff however says that, there is no need to
wait for service pack upgrades. He thinks that, service
packs will undergo major change in the near future.
He also says that, Service Pack One will be a collection
of automatic updates which are done in a period of time,
rather than a massive thing that people need to wait
for.
Any way, Windows Vista is a new thing which is in the
state of new born baby. Like how baby learn things day
by day, Windows Vista also undergoes changes day by
day. For users, it will take time to get adjust to the
new environment. |
