after the introduction of windows 3.1 operating environment
that worked under MS DOS 6.22. Wall papers are nothing
but, a collection of pictures that can be set on the

Wallpapers gives computer an amazing look. Without
any picture, the desktop looks little dull, with its
background color being set. The wall paper can be photos
from anything. The wall paper should be attractive.
One can set the wall paper by using different methods.
Guide to select wallpaper
The usual method is to select Properties from the
menu which one gets, when right clicks on the desktop.
The properties item selected in the menu bring one window
with a collection of display properties. Select desktop
tab from the display properties window.
Another way of selecting wallpaper is started from
the control panel. In the control panel window, select
the display icon, which wakes up the display properties
window. The lists of picture items show in the display,
by default, are given along with Windows by default.
Select Browse to select a picture from the list of
pictures not given by the Windows. There are 10 to 12
picture files are given by default. Some are more attractive
pictures. Suppose, if there is blue task bar, then the
picture named Bliss is most suited one. The resolutions
of the pictures are in the range of 800x600 for 800x600
displays, 1024x767 pixels for 1024x767 displays. Some
pictures can be stretched to fit the entire desktop.
Smaller pictures can be tiled.
Stretching the smaller picture does not give good look.
New wallpapers are added to Windows Vista. Various other
web sites, other than Microsoft, are also offering good
and neatly designed wallpapers. One can create their
own wall papers using tools like Adobe Photoshop, some
other image editors, which supports JPEG, GIF, BMP,
PNG, DIB file formats.
When Windows 98 was released, the concept of Active
Desktop also, came into existence. Active Desktop was
basically designed to give html rendering to desktop
background. This brought revolutionary changes in the
wallpaper designs. Animation to the wallpaper was made
possible, by using the active desktop. From Windows
98 onwards, the HTML file format became a supported
format for wallpapers. Additional wall papers are made
available, if one installs Microsoft Plus! Softwares.
