Windows Vista Security: 6-way protection
The word security refers to as keeping things away
from danger and prevent from hazards. One way of protection
is to keep things in a locked environment. First we
find a place, where we believe that the things kept
there will be secured. Next we keep our belongings in
that place, and lock the place, whenever we go out.
This is all about the security measure which we practice
daily.
The world of science and technology brought revolutionary
changes in daily activities. The introduction of computers
and subsequently the internet brought significant changes
in the area of information exchange. During the early
days of information exchange, one was needed to carry
personally and install the information on the required
system to enable them to see the information. Today,
one can exchange information in many ways, especially
sitting remotely. One can enjoy and share the information
that one has got. While these changes took place rapidly,
some persons started developing programs to steal information.
While sharing information, some one else, other than
authorized person, sitting in some remote place started
to steal information by illegal means. Just imagine,
how one feels when his real photo stolen and put up
in the web without any knowledge of theft. Information
thefts, however brought major losses to companies, who
stored vital secrete information such as business information
in these computers. Therefore, computer professionals,
users, and companies started to look for tools to protect
their computers. Companies started preparing tools to
protect their own computers as well as other users of
computers.
Windows security updates
Microsoft, on the hand, is the major system software
and application software development company, started
detecting security flaws in their operating systems
and released many fixes & updates for them. This made their operating
systems to be secured, than ever before. But, even then,
the hackers keep trying alternate methods to steal information
and gain control over the system. Today, it is the Microsoft
which keeps its operating systems secured by developing
programs, patches, updates for the sake of security.
Hacking Vista PC is not so easy
Coming to Windows Vista, Microsoft has taken good,
intelligent measures to protect the PC from hacking,
spamming, phishing, stealing, and gaining control over
the computer itself. Microsoft provides a six-way protection
to its vista users. The six ways, tightens the screw
against hackers, spammers, stealing and phishing etc,
there by introducing excellent tools to protect the
PC.
Vista authorization key
The first way is, by authorization. In this, computer
user can have access only to information, which he is
permitted. No information is made available to the unauthorized
user by any means. One has to have NTFS partitions to
demonstrate excellent protection measures by this way.
Vista complete backup
The next way, is by automating backup and recovery
strategies. The system takes backups of important data,
regularly by using advanced auto backup features, especially,
in the background. The corrupted data or system files
can be recovered from backup using advanced roll back
options available within Windows Vista. It is now made
possible to recover file which is accidentally deleted.
Internet Explorer 7.0
The next target that is in the six way list is the
internet. One can now securely browse the web, using
the advanced browsing tool. The tool, Internet Explorer
7.0 is a next generation browser, warns its users of
fake sites. It can also protect the user from providing
vital user information such as passwords, credit card
numbers to these sites. It has got many advanced features
such as phishing filter to accomplish the above said
task. There is also protection from spamming. These
features enable one to browse the net without many worries
for security.
Microsoft Windows Defender
Windows Defender, a program which guards the PC from
unknown threats. Whenever windows defender detects a
program which is performing suspicious activity, the
defender program simply brings the program into a halt.
It will not allow the program to run. This protects
the PC from attackers who try to run and install the
suspicious programs into the system. Windows Firewall
that was existed in Windows XP also re-done. The firewall
was entirely redeveloped into a new version, keeping
in mind the new security threats. The firewall can now
block or allow both inbound (incoming) and outbound
(outgoing) traffic.
Wireless networking
Wireless networking has got a major boost in Windows
Vista, as the network is safeguarded against any attacks.
This enables people to connect to the multiple networks
without much trouble which one might have experienced
in the past. Windows Vista also includes a secured wireless
networking protocol and Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)
protocol which is built into the system.
Bit locker encryption mechanism
Threats like Internal threats and data thefts can be
averted in Windows Vista. Vista introduces bit locker
encryption mechanism, which encrypts the entire hard
drives. This has got an advance authentication mechanism,
which includes authenticate through finger print, password
etc. Even USB drives and flash memory drives can be
encrypted for secured data. Usually Encryption is a
process which converts the actual data into unknown
form, thus, no one can know, what the actual information
is.
User Account Control option
These security arrangements in Windows Vista surely
make the operating system more secured than ever before.
The User Account Control option has been under continuous
revamping, redeveloping process. This it self shows
how Microsoft is committed to give secured operating
system through Windows Vista. Let us hope that, Microsoft
will emerge as a clear winner.
